In November 2019 the Minister of Finance budgeted $12.5 million for Sanitary Pads for school girls. Did the girls receive any sanitary pads?

Access to sanitary wear has been a rising challenge for most girls in secondary school. Considering the economic challenges being faced in the country it has been difficult for most girls to afford. Some girls have got to use other supplementary items which may be harmful to their health.

On the other hand, as IThemba for Girls Trust points out: “In November 2019 the Minister of Finance budgeted $12.5 million for Sanitary Pads for school girls. Those girls are menstruating every month but that money has not been released or did we miss something?” Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube budgeted ZWL $200 million for sanitary pads for rural schoolgirls in Forms 4 through Upper 6, starting from January.

So, has that money been spent on pads? Where did they go and who received them? And most of all, why is it so hard to find that out?
